This is an introduction to what a Whole 30 is, how to complete it, as well as the resources needed to succeed. I am also sharing my thoughts on how I am getting ready for my first Whole 30.
For about four or fives years now I have been dancing around the idea of doing a Whole 30.
Since it’s been in the back of my mind for the last few years I kind of assumed that everyone knew about it. But since I have announced that I am officially starting my first Whole 30 on March 1st, I have had a few people ask me what a Whole 30 is.
A Whole 30 is basically a 30-day challenge to only eat whole, nutrient dense, good for you food. You are only eating real, all natural food that promotes gut health. That means you can eat lean meats, fruits, and vegetables. You won’t be eating grains, sugar, alcohol or dairy.
There is a lot of science back reasoning behind what you are allowed to eat and what is omitted. I have been listening to It Starts With Food for the last few days. While a lot of it I already knew, it is very informative.
The thirty days gives you a chance to break sugar addictions and start new healthier habits. After the thirty days, you can gradually reintroduce things back into your diet. By doing it gradually you can see if you have sensitivities to foods that you were previously unaware were prohibiting you from feeling your best.
I have also been reading Whole 30: The 30 Day Guide to Total Health and Food Freedom. It explains what foods are and are not allowed. It also has a bunch of recipes and ideas of what to feed yourself as you transition to a potentially completely different diet. There are shopping lists, a timeline of what to expect, tips for kids, and on the go ideas. I feel that this book is essential for your first Whole 30.
People have said that the Whole 30 helped them with all sorts of health issues. I am hoping to sleep better, have more energy, and of course lose some weight.
