I like big bows. And I cannot lie. I think they add an extra little something. Well maybe an extra big something. This week I present to you the fleece bow tie scarf.
One yard of fleece will make two scarves. Depending on how big you want your bow, you could possibly get one scarf out of half a yard, but I would be safe and just ask for a 2/3 yard cut. Here’s a layout if you want to cut two scarves from a yard.
I cut my scarf 10 inches wide and left the length as the width of the fabric, which was about 58 inches. I cut off my selvage and sewed my scarf following the DIY Infinity Scarf tutorial. I used a 1/4 inseam for the entire scarf.
For my bow I cut a 12 inch by 18 inch piece and made a tiny infinity scarf, following the same directions. Then to create the bow I simply put the seam to the back and pinched it to make a valley fold. Then I folded the sides down to meet the bottom of the center fold. Once I had it folded how I wanted I handstitched it in place from the back.
And for the bow tie I cut a 5 inch by 12 inch piece and sewed it right sides together and turned it right side out. Then I was ready for assembly.
I placed my bow over the seam of my scarf. I hand stitched the bow in place on the scarf. Then I took the tie and hand stitched the end of it to the back of my scarf. I folded up the edges of the scarf around the bow and pulled the tie tight around the bow to the back of the scarf. Leaving enough to fold over for a nice edge, I snipped off the extra tie and stitched the folded edge down over the other end of the tie.
Then I was all done! You can wear it wrapped around your neck or long. I love it! I got this fleece at Joann’s. It comes in a few other colors as well.
If you make one I’d love to see it. Share it via social media with the hashtag #ambersimmons
