Before photos and the process of finding our new home.
As you might have seen on Instagram, we sold our first home in May. We loved it, but we wanted a bigger yard for the kids as well as for some bigger dogs. We also wanted to be closer to Thor’s preschool and Ricky’s office. Both of those things were currently 20-30 minutes away, depending on the traffic.
We looked and looked and looked. I noticed that the second time around we were a lot pickier. As first time home buyers, you only know what you other people tell you and what you have seen on TV. Everything in our price range in the location we wanted was going to be a LOT of work. And we really didn’t have the money for that at the time. So we went out of our target location and got a house that was only 10 years old and was move-in ready. Besides some awful paint choices.
But with the second house it is about all the other things.
Where is it located?
Where are the bedrooms?
Will the kids be by us?
Where will they play?
Will everyone fit for Thanksgiving and birthday parties?
Can we have a German Shepherd in that yard?
Does it have dual sinks? I’m not sharing again.
Well, after a few months of looking and 3 offers we finally found our new home. This time, we have two sinks. This time, we have a play room that is not in our main living area. This time, we have a much bigger yard where we can get the big dog we have been wanting.
But you also have to give and take. The area we bought in is more expensive, which meant that we couldn’t get everything we wanted. So we lost our kitchen island for a peninsula. We downgraded our two and a half bath for a two bath.
And why is everything brown? Has anyone else noticed that? Unless a house was built or updated in the last 3 years it’s all brown. Nothing that some paint can’t fix, but I am not a fan of brown.
Now who’s ready to see some before photos?
This was the living room.
This was the family room. Who else thinks these cutout flooring transitions are weird? To me, they feel like the room is now a weird shape. I would much prefer one flooring throughout and then add a rug.
This was the dining room. In order to put the world’s smallest dining table in here you have to put it where someone will sit in the bump out. And the chandelier should have been moved over toward the slider a few inches in order to be centered above the table.
And the kitchen. So brown. So blah.
It really didn’t look too bad before. However, it was not to my liking. Stay tuned to see the remodel more in depth.
