You guys I am so excited to try out the new Cricut Joy!
It really is a fun little machine. I can see myself using it for all sorts of projects.
The Cricut Joy is a great complimentary machine to the existing Cricut family.
It is so simple to use that you can complete a great number of projects in 15 minutes or less.
It’s able to do things that it’s bigger siblings can’t such as cuts longer than 24″ and mat-free cutting.
Mat-free cutting of the new Cricut Smart Vinyl, Smart Iron-on, and Smart Label is a GAME CHANGER.
You can cut a single image up to 4′ long or a repeating pattern up to 20′ long.
The Cricut Joy also has a brand new card mat! It is seriously so cool.
In combination with the new Cricut Joy Pens, it makes creating homemade cards so simple that you can be done in 5 minutes.
Another great thing about the Cricut Joy is its smaller size.
This compact machine is perfect for crafting on the go or tucking on a shelf or in a cupboard when not in use.
To find out more about what makes the Cricut Joy so awesome check out my post What is the Cricut Joy.
Today I’m going to show you five little ways to use your Cricut Joy throughout the day to make a few quick and easy projects.
Making Cards with the Cricut Joy
First up are these cute cards.
The first thing I made when I opened up the Cricut Joy were these cards.
I couldn’t wait to try the card mat out.
Both of these designs are in Design Space.
I made the birthday T-Rex with the Charmed Sampler Cricut Joy Insert Cards.
And the tool card for Father’s Day with the Princess Sampler Cricut Joy Insert Cards.
Making Water Bottle Stickers with the Cricut Joy
Next, I made a sticker for my water bottle.
I am not sure of the color of vinyl. It was cut from the sample that came with my Cricut Joy.
I love llamas, so I searched for a llama image in Design Space.
The one I settled on was this simple drawing.
I sized it to fit on my scrap. It ended up being 2.5″ wide.
I think this is a perfect size for my water bottle.
For size reference, my water bottle is a 40 oz Hydro Flask.
Place Cards
I found these cute little Easter egg place card stands in the Target Bullseye Playground.
I thought they would be perfect for a Cricut Joy project.
They will make Easter dinner look so cute and fancy.
For these, I cut cards 2 inches by 3.5 inches and had the Cricut Joy write names on them.
My cut file is here if you want to make some of your own.
Personalized Paper Lunch Sack
I also wanted to see how the Cricut Joy would do with a paper lunch bag.
I bought a pack of 100 bags from Target. I wasn’t sure how they would fit into the machine.
They are too narrow to try matless, so I put it on the mat the Cricut Joy came with.
I just lined the top of the bag up just below the top of the mat, centered it, and stuck it down to the mat.
Make sure you put the seam on down on the mat.
You want the writing surface to be the smooth side.
Then I wrote my name 3.25″ wide in the font Heart Attack in Design Space.
Make sure that you change the font to a writing font, and that the Joy knows that you want to draw and not cut.
Then I hit the make it button and centered my name on the mat between the 3″ and 4″ lines.
That made sure that I had some room at the top of the bag to roll it closed.
I probably could have gone a little lower on the bag. But that’s just my preference.
I just chose the cardstock option from the materials list since I was writing on a couple of layers of paper.
Rae Dunn Inspired Pen and Pencil Holder Tutorial
And finally, the Rae Dunn inspired office organization.
If you follow me on Instagram then you know that we’re in the process of finishing my new craft room. I think these will be perfect in there.
Let’s get started.
Supplies:
Cricut Joy
Cricut Smart Vinyl (I used Gunmetal)
Cricut Joy Transfer Tape
Cricut Joy Tools
Flower pots (I purchased them at IKEA 10+ years ago)
Alcohol wipes
Pen & Pencil Holder Design
Assemble your supplies.
Prep the pots by wiping with the alcohol wipes to ensure that they are clean and free of residue that might prevent the vinyl from sticking.
Open the Design Space pen & pencil holder file and resize it to fit your project.
Once you have the design ready, click the Make It button.
It will then ask you which material load type you are using. Select the matless cut option.
Then you have to connect to your Cricut Joy via bluetooth.
Next, it will ask about the material you are going to load. Select the one that matches your material. In this case, it is the Smart Vinyl – Permanent.
To load your vinyl, simply push it under the material guides and into the Cricut Joy machine to meet the rollers. The Cricut Joy will automatically start rolling it in.
Then you click Go in Design Space and the Cricut Joy will start cutting.
When it is finished you click Unload in Design Space to release it from the machine.
Cut the design from the remainder of the vinyl and set the unused vinyl aside.
Using a weeding tool, remove the vinyl from around your design and inside the letters. This process is known as weeding.
When you are done weeding, pull the paper backing off of a piece of transfer tape and place the tape on top of your design, sticky side down.
Now using your scraper or a card such as a loyalty or a library card you want to apply pressure to over the design to get it to adhere to the transfer tape.
When you have done a few passes and feel like it is firmly in place cut the design into two pieces. One for the pens and one for the pencils.
Then peel the paper backing away from the vinyl. This is easiest if you turn the design face down on the table and peel the paper up at a 45-degree angle.
Now, take the transfer tape with the vinyl design and line it up where you want to place it on the pot.
Stick the vinyl and transfer tape down in your desired spot.
Firmly press the design into place with your scraper.
Once the vinyl is stuck to the pot, lift the transfer tape away.
Transfer tape can be placed back onto its paper backing to be used on another project.
That’s it. You’re done!
Below I have a video tutorial to show you each step.
These fun rainbow mechanical pencils I bought from Target a couple years ago.
I love these pens. They are Papermate InkJoy Gel Pens. They write so smooth and they are quick-drying too.
These turned out so cute.
I think they will look super cute on my desk.
