I am starting my first Whole 30 today. I am sharing my meal plan for the week and some of what I am hoping to get out of this experience.
Today is the day. The day that starts my first Whole 30.
I am excited and nervous. And already finding myself distracted by sugar. Who doesn’t want a donut the day they say they aren’t going to eat any more sugar? Not that I have one sitting around the house. I was just thinking one sounded good this morning.
I thought I would share a rough meal plan that I have for the week.
I have been under the weather the last couple of days so I haven’t really done much meal prepping, but I am hoping to get more done today.
On the menu this week I have:
- scrambled eggs
- bangers and mash (page 249 of Whole 30)
- chicken salad
- cold Thai salad (page 274 of Whole 30)
- dinner leftovers
- steaks with roasted veggies ( page 292 of Whole 30)
- stir fry
- pot roast
- hard boiled eggs
- carrots and peppers with ranch
- apple with almond butter
My husband is a little bummed that his beloved protein powder doesn’t make the cut for a Whole 30, but he is planning to stick to it and complete a real Whole 30.
We are also having the boys do it with us. Not a complete Whole 30 because Thor goes to a preschool where he is served snacks and lunch, but at least they will be eating healthier foods at home. I will be buying no cereal, crackers, or macaroni and cheese during our Whole 30.
I still need to take some before pictures and measurements. Maybe I will do that later today. I am on day three of a yucky head cold and all I want to do is lay around and do nothing.
I feel like a Whole 30 isn’t significantly different from how we were eating before. Except for no cheese. And that’s hard. Cheese is addicting, you know?
But I think we can do it. It’s only 30 days. It’s not like I can never have cheese or Starbucks again. I am just hoping to change how I feel on a day to day basis so that I will have more energy and I will want to eat healthy foods more often than not.
I am also planning to use it to transition into more of a Paleo lifestyle. I ate dirty Paleo before. Where I ate mostly Paleo at home, and then I would still eat whatever when I went out. I also became pregnant with Loki, so that made it harder to stick to a healthy eating plan because I wanted to give in to all my cravings.
Since there is no baby in our future this time, I think that we will easily be able to stick to a Paleo diet. At least most of the time.
