We all know that you should wash your fruit and veggies before you eat them. But did you know that if you wash them with a produce wash before you store them they will last longer?
I have had strawberries stay fresh in my refrigerator for three weeks after using my DIY Produce Wash. No mushiness. No mold. Just firm, fresh berries.
And guess what? My DIY Produce Wash is a super simple recipe that you can do in your own kitchen with two ingredients. Both of which almost everyone has on hand. So let’s get started.
DIY Produce Wash
5 parts water
1 part vinegar (white or apple cider)
Just fill a bowl with water, add vinegar, and mix. Then you add your produce and let it soak.
I leave mine in for about 10 minutes. Then rinse and put in the fridge. The vinegar will kill the bacteria and mold spores on the fruit, keeping them fresh longer.
See? Easy peasy. And now your fruit will last for weeks instead of days. And don’t worry, there’s no vinegar taste leftover. You can even do more than one kind of produce at the same time. I have strawberries and blackberries bathing here.
You can use this for fruit and veggies. Any kind of produce really. So wash up!
Have you used this method to wash your produce before?
