I use the large Fiskars hexagon punch for punching out all of my hexie templates. It makes it quick and easy to get a sizeable stack of templates ready to go.
They now have an English paper piecing hexagon punch. It’s the same punch but it comes with an acrylic template. The acrylic template makes it easy to fussy cut your hexies.
Fussy cutting is where you cut a specific design out of your fabric. So if you want to have a strawberry in the center of your hexie you would center the strawberry in the center of the acrylic template to cut it out.
These punches work perfectly because they cut out 1-inch hexies. Hexies are measured by the length of the sides. So a 1-inch hexie has six 1-inch sides.
I cut my hexie templates out of cardstock so they are nice and sturdy. I can cut twenty-one hexie templates from one sheet of cardstock
Then I go through and punch a hole out the center using a standard size 1/4 inch single hole punch. This will make it easier to remove the hexie template from the finished hexie.
