The Simple DIY Washi Wheel is the easiest way to organize and store your washi tape so that you can see all the pretty patterns.

Hi. I’m Amber. And I am a washi tape addict.
I love to buy all the washi tape so that I can look at all the pretty colors and patterns.
Do I use washi tape?
Ummm…
Sure. Sometimes. But I am more of a collector.
If you are like me, then you have quite a collection going.
I had mine all stored in a bin, and I would have to dig to find the right color on that rare occasion that I would actually want to use a teeny tiny bit of my stash.

It’s really hard to admire how pretty they all are when they are just in a big pile. Don’t you agree?
So what’s a washi tape collector to do?
I needed a way that I could easily see all the washi. And a way that I could sort them by color.
Because I am OCD like that. Do you need things in rainbow order too or is that just me?
I decided the simplest, and cheapest way to do this was to make a washi ring.

Supply List
- Wooden embroidery hoop
- Wood Glue
- Foam Brush
- Hacksaw
- Washi Tape (Because you really need more, right?)
For this, I used a 12-inch wooden embroidery hoop.
First, you take the center hoop out. Then you are going to use the hacksaw to make a cut in the inner hoop so it has an opening just like the outer hoop.

Using the foam brush spread a generous layer of wood glue on the inside edge of the outer hoop.
Matching up the openings, put the inner hoop back into the outer hoop and screw it closed to hold them in place while they dry. Dry time will vary depending on the kind and amount of wood glue you use.
Once the wood glue is dry, unscrew the hoop and add your washi.
Now hang your beautiful washi wheel on the wall and admire all the pretty tapes.

This 12″ washi wheel is currently holding 67 rolls of washi tape of assorted widths.
What do you think? How do you store your washi tape?

What a cute idea!!! I have extra embroidery hoops. I am going to try this. Thanks some much! I am also a Washi tape collector, so I do need this. Thanks again.

This is brilliant. The washi tape rings are way too expensive for me, but I can do this. Thanks for the idea.
I love this idea, but an even easier to get use the tape if you just want a little piece is to just pull and tear without removing it from the ring, save the time of having to remove it. This would also be a good idea for ribbon that is on small rolls such as for scrap booking or card making.
Exactly. I don’t really take the tapes off of the ring.
