For our first week of Tot School Thor and I worked on circles.
Now, I’m not expecting him to be able to say circle or even draw a circle. It’s more about exposing him to the concept of circles.
Not every thing I included was a circle, but I mostly tried to stick to rounded items.
I planned out six Tot Trays as well as three other activities for the week. I know. It’s a lot. But he’s one busy boy.
Trays
On the first tray we have a circles coloring page. I printed this page from this PDF from Moms Have Questions Too. It’s in a page protector so that Thor can color it as many times as he wants with his Crayola Dry Erase Markers.
On the second tray we have a circle paint dot page. I printed it from 3 Dinosaurs. Thor loved using the paint dot marker.
For our third tray we have a Playdoh pack. We didn’t even open the Playdoh.
Thor had a great time just taking them out of the tray and putting them back in. At one point he tried his hand at stacking them up as tall as he could.
On the fourth tray I put a circle match up activity. {Printable here.} I put two sizes of cookie cutters and I cut circles out of fleece, scrapbook paper, and an empty fruit snacks box.
He was more interested in playing with the different materials than in matching them up. But we still talked about how each one was a circle and whether it was big or small.
For the fifth tray I put an egg carton of giant pom poms, tongs (Hobby Lobby), and a bowl (Hobby Lobby). He LOVED this activity. He played with the pom poms for an hour. He loves sorting.
On the last tray I put a beading activity and some shape flash cards. I know. Two activities. I cheated. Oh well.
For the beads I used the round pieces from the Melissa & Doug Geometric Stacker set that Thor received for his birthday. I tied a piece of yarn around a small popsicle stick so there would be a stopper. Thor wasn’t into the beading. He was more into stacking.
The flash cards I made myself. Printable coming soon! Thor loves to look at them and sort them.
Sensory Bin
For a sensory bin Thor and I made rainbow rice. It’s all pretty now, but it definitely got all mixed together while he was playing. Find out how to make your own rainbow rice here.
I put scoops (from Hobby Lobby) and funnels, as well as a stacking cup and a cupcake liner. Scooping things is a ton of fun. Until the rice starts getting flung. Luckily I had put down a sheet to play on, so there wasn’t too much of a mess to clean up.
Mini Muffin Pan Sorting
For this activity I simply provided him a mini muffin pan and mini silicone cups.
My muffin pan makes two dozen but I only bought one set of these Zeal silicone liners. I’m going to have to buy a second set because Thor gets annoyed that some of the cups don’t have liners.
Muffin Pan Surprise
The last activity that I had planned for this week was a Muffin Pan Surprise. I saw this over on Click, Pray, Love.
In my tray I have:
a bracelet (from Maui)
two little soft spiked balls (Target party section)
three chocolate eggs
Slinky Jr (Target dollar spot)
cookie cutters
circle (Ikea shape sorter set)
paper mini muffin liners
fruit snacks
cotton balls
a canon ball dart (Jake and the Neverland Pirates Duplo set)
crackers
light up spiky ball (Target dollar spot)
Then I added my lids.
He loved it.
So that was our first week of Tot School. Packed full of activities. We had a ton of fun. I can’t wait to do more activities with my little man.
