This DIY 3D tree pallet sign is the perfect holiday decoration to make your Christmas decor pop.
Christmas is my favorite time of year to decorate. I just love all the fun holiday stuff. The lights. The snow. The trees. All of it.
And since I’m such a big fan of the farmhouse look, I decided to make a pallet style Christmas tree sign.
It’s more like a mini pallet decoration with a 3D Christmas tree. It’s very simple to make especially if you have a Cricut Maker.
Let’s talk about supplies.
Supplies
Cricut Maker
Knife Blade
Scoring Wheel
Strong Grip Mat
Light Grip Mat
Painters tape
Balsa 8″ x 12″ or larger
Scrapbook paper or cardstock
Paint
Glue
3D Pallet Tree Pattern
First, cut all your pieces. Place your scrapbook paper on the light grip mat and cut out the trees. Be sure to put the scoring wheel into the machine to score the center. Set the trees aside.
Then, you’re going to take your Balsa and place it on your strong grip mat. You want to push it down really well.
Next, you’re going to take the painters tape and tape all around the edges to make sure it is good and stuck to the mat. You don’t want it moving around during the cutting process.
Put the knife blade in your Cricut Maker and cut the Balsa. You should have a big piece for the backing, and 7 strips down the front. A couple of which will have a little triangle that is separate. Careful not to lose it.
Once all of your pieces are cut you’re going to paint all of them with you’re paint of choice.
I used a watered-down espresso brown. I like watering down my acrylic paint. It gives it more of a washed look.
You could do a mix. Do a couple one shade. Add some more water. Do a couple more. Squirt in a little gray. Do the last few to give it a mixed wood look.
Set them aside to dry.
To make the 3D tree, take all 6 paper trees and fold down the center along the scoreline. Glue half of the back of two trees together.
So the right side of the first tree should be glued to the left side of the second tree.
Glue the left side of the third tree to the right side of tree two.
Repeat until you have all six trees glued together, leaving the remaining seem open so the tree will lie flat against the Balsa.
So the trees are glued 1 > 2 > 3 > 4 >5 > 6. But 1 and 6 are not glued to each other.
Glue the flat back of the tree in place within the outline of the tree drawn onto the back piece of Balsa.
Lastly, glue all of your Balsa plank pieces in place around the tree.
Once all the glue is dry you’ll have this cute little 3D tree pallet sign.
