Could your kitchen use more donuts? Follow this tutorial to make a Frosted Donut Hot Pad. Use the Cricut Maker to cut out the pattern to make this adorable pastry pot holder.
I love that the Cricut Maker cuts fabric with a rotary blade. It makes my sewing projects so much quicker, easier, and my cuts much more accurate. (Psst… To see everything the new Maker can do check out my post What Is The Cricut Maker.)
I have been wanting to make a donut hot pad for a while for a few reasons. First, we love donuts at our house. They are a delicious treat for any time of day. Second, I could use a couple new hot pads.
Materials
12″ x 12″ donut fabric
7″ x 7″ frosting fabric (optional Heat n Bond)
2″ x 2″ center fabric (optional Heat n Bond)
Binding/ bias tape
Batting

First, ready your cutting materials and cut them using the Cricut Maker. You will need to cut one center, one frosting, and two donuts. I would recommend using a light Heat n Bond, although it’s not required. I didn’t use any, so my frosting and center required top stitching. If you do use Heat n Bond you can just iron them in place and move to the quilting step.
Second, you want to layer the frosting and center onto one donut. Depending on if you used Heat n Bond or not you will iron them in place or top stitch around them.
Next, you will layer them in a quilt sandwich. Frosted donut top (right side out), batting, donut bottom (right side out). Pin together.
Then you will quilt it together. You can do any pattern of your choosing. I did a grid by spacing my stitching one inch apart.
Finally, you are going to bind your hot pad. I used a black and white stripe because that’s what I had on hand but you could use the same fabric as the donut if you want.
Once the binding is on you are done! Now you are ready to use your fancy frosted donut hot pad while you bake some tasty treats.
