Last week was my nephew’s first birthday. This is him stuffing his face with snacks at his party. I love that expression. I think it says “What do you want Auntie Am? I’m eating here.” Like any good aunt, I had to get him something cool for his birthday. But what does a one-year-old think is cool? Something to climb on of course. So I settled on a floor pouf. I decided to make one, because if you have ever priced them, they are a bit ridiculous when it comes to the cost. I decided to use the Chartreuse chevron that I purchased a while back. I actually bought it intending to make him a blanket, but I never got around to it. A lot of this toys and clothes are the same lime green, so when I saw it I knew it would be perfect to make him something with.
He seemed kind of indifferent to it, but I am sure that he will enjoy it. It’s hard for a pillow to compete with toys. It’s a fairly large floor pillow. Especially for a one-year-old. It’s made from medium weight fabric so this cushion should hold up to years of wear and tear. It was simple to make too. I got it mostly done during Thor’s nap time one more. But I have to say, lining up the chevron was a PAIN. I think I spent about half an hour just on that. I opted to put a handle on it so that he can easily drag it around. It was pretty inexpensive to make too.
$11.22 – Chevron (1.5 yds) from fabric.com
$1.5 – Turquoise material (0.25 yds) from fabric.com (no longer available)
$2 – 5/8″ Piping chord (4 yds) from Joann’s $7.20 – Stuffing from Joann’s

Not too bad. And considering its size I think it’s a great deal. The circles are 20 inches in diameter and it’s a foot high. So fairly large. Floor poufs around this size go for about $50 at Target. Overall I am very pleased with how it turned out. I think Vlad will be pleased with it too.

Found you on pinterest. Love this and the colors just pop. Do you have instructions for sewing or for the actual assembly to it?

I do. I actually just ordered some more fabric to make one for Thor, so I will be posting directions soon! 🙂
