Every year as the holidays near and Thanksgiving rolls around we break our are top secret stuffing recipe. I’m going to let you in on the secret. Are you ready?
It’s just dressed up Stove Top Stuffing.
It’s become a joke in my family that we have to hurry and hide the boxes before anyone else sees that we used Stove Top. Personally, I love Stove Top so this is a favorite dish of mine. And since it does start with a box, it’s a super quick side dish to add to your holiday meals.
I prefer the chicken flavored stuffing, but you can use any flavor you like. Sometimes we mix it and do a box of chicken and a box of cornbread.
- 1 box of Stove Top Stuffing
- 1/4 cup plus 2 T butter
- 1/4 cup celery, diced
- 1/4 cup onion, diced
- 1/4 Craisins
- Following box directions, put 1 1/2 cup water and 1/4 cup butter in a pot. Add Craisins and bring pot to boil.
- While water is coming to a boil, in a pan melt 2 tablespoons butter and sauté celery and onion until soften and onion starts to become translucent.
- When water boils add stuffing mix and cover for 5 minutes.
- Add onion and celery and fluff stuffing with a fork.
Everyone loves it. Even people who say they hate Stove Top Stuffing. Because they can’t even tell it came from a box. When people ask for our recipe they are always so surprised when the find out it’s Stove Top.
The addition of the fresh ingredients is simple and will have everyone thinking you made your stuffing from scratch. And isn’t that the goal when making Thanksgiving dinner? To make everyone think you slaved away in the kitchen all day while in reality you spent minimal effort to create a truly delicious meal?
That’s my goal. Good food while spending a little time on my feet as possible. I mean, if everyone else gets to sit around and snack and chat I should get to as well. Even if we’re just watching football.
